    Two Wild River Valleys

The Tinée Valley & the Ubaye Valley

The Tinée Valley, located in the high country above Nice, and the Ubaye Valley may seem far apart at first glance — yet they are actually close neighbours.

It only takes crossing the famous Col de la Bonette to move from one valley to the other. Another beautiful route follows the Var Valley toward the Col de la Cayolle, before dropping into the stunning Bachelard Valley, with its spectacular gorges — a true hidden paradise for fly fishing.

Why do I guide in these two valleys? To keep it short (as there is a long story behind it): I live in the Tinée Valley, and since 2012 I have been running my white-water sports company in the Ubaye Valley.

Today, I consider these two valleys to be perfectly complementary when it comes to fly fishing.
In spring, fly fishing conditions are generally better in the Tinée Valley. Snowmelt occurs earlier, and many tributaries remain fishable, unlike in the Ubaye Valley, where rivers are often swollen by melting snow.

During the peak summer season (from mid-July to late August), I am more present in the Ubaye Valley, as I am heavily involved in my work as a river guide for rafting and kayaking.
Of course, this does not prevent me from offering guided fly fishing trips — quite the opposite. These outings are a true breath of fresh air for me, and a wonderful opportunity to introduce you to the beauty of the upper Ubaye Valley.

Finally, in the late season, from early September onwards, I take great pleasure in guiding and fishing in both valleys. At this time of year, they regain a remarkable sense of calm, offering ideal conditions for immersive and peaceful fly fishing experiences.
